Indexation (English spelling)

Indexation (English spelling)
It refers to automatically adjusting wages, interest rates, pensions, etc. to reflect price increases. Under inflation, if wages, pensions, etc. do not rise in line with prices due to institutional factors, real income will decrease and problems with income distribution will arise, but indexation can prevent this situation. It attracted attention as a way to prevent savings from decreasing during the abnormal price hike of 1974-75, and there was hope that it could also help stabilize prices based on the experiences of Brazil and Finland. Some economists, such as M. Friedman, an American known as a monetarist, support it as a way to neutralize the effects of monetary expansion.

A method of export income compensation for primary commodity producing countries. It is a price determination mechanism that links the price index of primary commodities to the price index of industrial products produced by consumer countries. As a result, if the price of industrial products rises, the price of primary commodities will automatically rise as well, resulting in relative stability, and thus preventing a decline in export income for producing countries. In recent years, there has been an increasing call for the introduction of this system from developing countries, and it is also mentioned in the Charter on Economic Rights and Obligations among States (CERDS, commonly known as the Echeverría Charter).
