Map of fields in Keihoku

Japanese: 京北班田図 - けいほくはんでんず

This old map shows the area of Soe Shimogori, Yamato Province. It covers what is now Ukyo, Nara City, the Akishino River basin, and an area of 4 ri east to west and 6 ri north to south (1 ri is a square plot of land with a square of 6 cho) spanning Kyohoku 1-4. Two copies have been handed down to Saidaiji, one of which is currently in the possession of the Faculty of Letters, University of Tokyo. Both copies are thought to have been created around the same time, but the Saidaiji copy is more detailed. The boundaries of the jo, ri, and tsubo are shown with square grid lines, and mountains, rivers, irrigation facilities, roads, etc. are shown with colored lines, with the necessary characters written on them. Both are on paper. At least three or four parts with different dates of creation were joined together, and it is believed that the final creation date was during the Kagen era (1303-06), but there is still room for further investigation.

大和国添下郡の地域をあらわした古地図。現在の奈良市右京，秋篠川流域，条里呼称でいえば京北1条～4条にわたる東西4里南北6里(1里は方6町の方格地)の地。西大寺に2本伝来したが，そのうち1本は現在東京大学文学部の所蔵。両本の成立年代はほぼ同時期と思われるが内容は西大寺本の方が詳しい。条･里･坪の境界を方格線で表し，山･川･用水施設･道路などは彩色線によって表現し，所用の文字を記入する。ともに紙本。少なくとも3または4の成立年代を異にする部分が接合され，最終的には嘉元年間(1303‐06)に成立したとされるが，最終成立年代についてはなお検討の余地がある。
