Indian Seat

It is a constellation located further southwest of Grus, which can be seen near the southern horizon on autumn evenings. Only a part of it can be seen above the southern horizon near Tokyo, and even near Okinawa, the whole of it cannot be seen. Its brightest star, Alpha, is a magnitude 3 star, and the rest are all faint stars of magnitude 4 or less, so it is not very noticeable. In Japan, it was once mistakenly translated as "Indian," but it actually refers to American Indians. It first appeared in Bayer's star atlas in 1603.

秋の宵の南の地平線近くに見えるつる座のさらに南西にある星座。東京付近ではその一部が南の地平線上に姿を現すだけで、沖縄付近でもその全身を見ることができない。もっとも明るいα(アルファ)星が3等、あとは4等以下の暗い星ばかりなのであまり目だたない。日本ではかつて「印度(インド)人」と誤訳されたこともあったが、正真正銘アメリカ・インディアンのことである。1603年、バイヤーの星図に初めて登場した。
