Albano Mountains - Colli Albani

A mountain range located in central Italy, about 20 km southeast of Rome. It is made up of volcanic rocks that erupted from the Tertiary to the beginning of the Quaternary Period, and has two caldera lakes, Lake Albano and Lake Nemi. The highest peak is Mount Cabo (942 m), which is a radio station. It is close to Rome, blessed with beautiful scenery, and offers an escape from the summer heat, so it has been known as a villa destination for the aristocracy and wealthy since ancient Rome, and is still a popular resort for Roman citizens today. It is also famous for its grapes. The series of settlements on the hills of the Albano Mountains are called the Castelli Romani, and one of them, Castel Gandolfo, is home to the Pope's summer villa.

イタリア中部，ローマの南東約20kmにある山地。第三紀から第四紀初めにかけて噴出した火山岩から成り，アルバノ湖，ネミNemi湖の二つのカルデラ湖がある。最高峰はカーボ山(942m)で，無線基地になっている。ローマに近く，美しい景色に恵まれ，夏の暑気を逃れることができるため，古代ローマの頃から貴族や富裕階級の別荘地として知られ，現在でもローマ市民の行楽地である。ブドウの産地としても有名。アルバノ山地の丘の上にある一連の集落はカステリ･ロマーニと呼ばれ，そのひとつカステル･ガンドルフォには教皇の夏の別荘がある。
