Seasonal record

Japanese: 季禄 - きろく
Seasonal record

A type of stipend under the Ritsuryo system. According to the provisions of the Roku-ryo of the Yoro Code, it was paid to civil and military officials in Kyoto (those who held posts of the fourth-class in various government offices, whose ranks were determined by the Kan-i-Ryo) and to officials in Dazaifu, Iki, and Tsushima according to the rank of the post they held. The year was divided into two, with spring and summer stipends paid in early February and autumn and winter stipends paid in early August, but if the number of days of work in the six months prior to the month of payment did not reach 120, the stipend was not paid. The contents of the stipend were silk, cotton, cloth, and a hoe, but thread was given instead of cotton for the spring and summer stipends, and iron instead of a hoe for the autumn and winter stipends. The financial resources for these seasonal stipends came from tributes paid to the Ministry of Finance from various provinces.
