A general term for small items made by the Goto family. Ever since their founder, Yujo, served the Muromachi Shogunate, the Goto family was highly valued by the Oda, Toyotomi, and Tokugawa families as a famous family of sword fittings metalwork, and continued to do so until the end of the Edo period. As they mainly produced small items, always used specific themes and materials, and valued tradition and formality, they were used in the formal fittings of the Shogunate and feudal lords, and in the Edo period they were called Iebori (family carvings) in contrast to Machibori (town carvings). → Goto Yujo Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
