India paper - India paper (English spelling)
A type of Western paper. Tissue paper for printing. It is used for books that require small, dense printing in order to fit large volumes of text into booklets that are easy to carry, such as the Bible, prayer books, dictionaries, and the Complete Code. It is thin and light, with a basis weight and thickness of 20-30g/ m2 and 0.04-0.05mm, both of which are half that of regular printing paper, while also being very opaque. It is also required to have a uniform texture and absorb ink well. Originally, it referred to a thin, high-quality paper that was imported from China to the UK and used for test printing of prints, but Oxford University Press came to imitate it and began producing it from raw materials such as hemp, and in 1875 a Bible printed using this was published. Currently, it is made from bleached wood chemical pulp as the main raw material, mixed with fillers.
