A general term for birds of the Heliornithidae family in the order Grui. The family consists of three genera and three species: the American finfoot Heliornis fulica (English name: sungrebe), the Asian finfoot Heliopais personata (English name: masked finfoot), and the African finfoot Podica senegalensis (English name: finfoot). Their anatomical characteristics are similar to those of the Rallidae family, but their appearance resembles that of birds of the Cormorants, Anhingas, and Grebe families.
