Japanese: 都市圏 - としけん（英語表記）city region

The area of influence of urban functions such as economy, politics, culture, and medical care in a certain center. For example, when it is based on a single function such as commerce, it is called a trade area, whereas a metropolitan area is when various functions are considered comprehensively. It has the same meaning as urban sphere of influence, urban area of influence, and urban-related area. In addition, urban-rural joint areas and complementary areas that focus on the relationship between the city and the surrounding areas can also be considered to be included in the metropolitan area. In the case of a large city, the area of influence of its functions can be considered very large depending on how the indicators are taken, but generally it is within the range of daily activities, 10 to 50 km from the center.

ある中心地の経済，政治，文化，医療など都市的機能が影響する範囲。たとえば商業機能という単一機能による場合，それを商圏と呼ぶが，それに対して都市圏とは各種の機能を総合的にみる場合である。都市勢力圏，都市影響圏，都市関係圏などとも同意義である。なお都市と周辺の地域との関係に主眼をおく都鄙共同圏や補完地域なども，都市圏に含めて考えてもよい。大都市の場合，その機能の影響する範囲は，指標のとり方によって，非常に大きいものと考えられるが，一般的には，日常的活動の範囲で，中心地から 10～50kmの範囲である。
