Anarcho-syndicalism and Bolshevism were two ideological and activism-based trends that emerged within the Japanese social movement after World War I. After the war, the labor movement gained momentum, and from around 1920, the anarcho-syndicalist ideas of Sakae Osugi and others began to have a strong influence. Meanwhile, research on the Russian Revolution that occurred in 1917 was being conducted by people such as Kin Yamakawa, and the influence of the Bolsheviks began to be seen. At the 10th Congress of the Russian Communist Party in April 1921, a decision was made to expel anarchists, which sparked conflict between the anarchist and Bolshevik factions in Japan as well.
