An island in western Indonesia between Sumatra and Borneo. It is also called Belitung Island. The terrain is hilly. It is known as a producer of tin ore along with the neighboring island of Bangka to the west, and mining is mainly carried out by Chinese workers. The capital is Tanjung Pandang on the west coast.
