The world's oldest tennis tournament, first held in 1877, is officially called the Lawn Tennis Championships on Grass. It is held at the All England Tennis Club in Wimbledon, a suburb of London, and is generally called the Wimbledon Tournament. The first tournament had 22 men's participants. It started out with singles only, but doubles was added, and in 1984 a women's event was added. Since 1913, five events have been held: men's and women's singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. 1877年に始まった世界最古のテニス・トーナメント。正式名称はLawn Tennis Championships on Grass。ロンドン郊外ウィンブルドンWimbledonの全英テニス・クラブで行われ,一般にウィンブルドン大会と呼ばれる。第1回大会の参加者は男子22人。シングルスのみでスタートしたが,ダブルスが追加され,84年には女子種目も増設,1913年からは男女シングルスおよびダブルス,ミックス・ダブルスの5種目が実施されている。
