A general term for insects of the Olethreutinae subfamily of the Lepidoptera family Tortricidae. Moths in this family are small species with a wingspan of about 1-2 cm, long and slender wings, and a pointed forewing. Many larvae roll up tree or grass leaves and eat them from the inside. There are many species in the tropics and subtropics, with about 4,500 known species worldwide and over 550 known species in Japan. They are divided into five subfamilies, with the largest being the Olethreutinae, which accounts for about 70% of Japanese tortricid moths. Most adults are nocturnal and often fly to lights.
