Japanese: ヒメバチ(姫蜂) - ヒメバチ

A general term for parasitic wasps belonging to the Ichneumonidae family of the Hymenoptera order. Over 800 species are known throughout Japan, including swallowtail wasps, water wasps, long-horned wasps, comb wasps (illustration), and red-breasted fly wasps, making this one of the largest groups in the Hymenoptera order. The body length of the larger species can reach nearly 100 mm, and the smallest can be just a few mm, with a wide variation in shape and lifestyle from species to species. The morphology and ecology of the closely related Braconidae family are also very similar.

膜翅目ヒメバチ科Ichneumonidaeに属する寄生バチの総称。日本全国でアゲハヒメバチ，ミズバチ，モンオナガヒメバチ，コンボウアメバチ(イラスト)，アカハラヒラタアブヤドリバチなど800種以上が知られており，膜翅目の中ではもっとも大きなグループの一つである。体長は大きい種類では100mm近くに達し，最小では数mmのものまであり，形や生活のしかたも種ごとで変異に富んでいる。近縁のコマユバチ科とは，その形態や生態もよく似ている。
