Yoshioki Ouchi
Year of death: December 20, 1529 (January 29, 1529)
Year of birth: Bunmei 9 (1477)
A military commander in the Sengoku period. His childhood name was Kamedomaru. He held the official position of Suo Gonnosuke and Sakyo no Daifu. He was the son of Masahiro. In 1494, he took over as head of the family when Masahiro fell ill. He was the guardian of Suo, Nagato, Buzen, Chikuzen, Iwami, and other areas. In 1495-1496, Shoni Masasuke invaded Chikuzen, but he repelled them. In 1508, a plot by his retainer Sugi Takeaki to depose Yoshioki and make Yoshioki's younger brother Takamitsu the head of the family was discovered. Yoshioki forced Takeaki to commit suicide, and Takamitsu fled to Bungo. The following year, when the previous Shogun Ashikaga Yoshitane descended to Suo, he protected him. In 1501, he fought against the Shoni and Otomo clans in Buzen and Chikugo. In 1508, he went to Kyoto with Yoshitane and restored Yoshitane to the Shogun position, and played an active role as the guardian of Yamashiro. In the same year, he returned to Yamaguchi and devoted himself to governing his territory. From 1521, the Ouchi forces fought against the Amago clan of Izumo in Aki province, with repeated battles of advance and retreat. In 1528, he fell ill in the camp in Aki and died in Yamaguchi. He sent ships to Ming China twice, but in 1523, a ship sent to Ming China caused a conflict in Ningbo, China, when it was confronted by another ship sent by the Hosokawa clan. <References> Kondo Seiseki, "Ouchi Clan Chronicles," Fukuo Takeichiro, "Ouchi Yoshitaka," Yonehara Masayoshi, "Ouchi Yoshitaka"
