This refers to the friendly policy towards Latin America adopted by US President F. Roosevelt. Roosevelt valued Latin America as a trading market and tried to prevent European powers from advancing into the region. He abolished America's previous interventionist policy and sought to establish a friendly relationship with Latin America. At the Conference of the Americas in Montevideo in December 1933, the US promised not to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, withdrew troops from Haiti and Nicaragua, and did not intervene in the revolutionary civil war in Cuba. In 1934, the Platt Amendment, which had given the US the right to intervene in Cuba, was repealed. The Good Neighbor policy was basically premised on the unity of North and South America, and in line with the Monroe Doctrine, it expanded US trade with Latin America and contributed to the development of overseas markets.
