Hexahydropyridine. C 5 H 11 N (85.15). Also called azacyclohexane. It is produced by catalytic reduction of pyridine or by distillation of pentamethylenediamine hydrochloride. It is a colorless liquid with an ammonia odor. Its melting point is -13 °C, its boiling point is 106 °C. Its pH is 0.8622 and 1.4534. p K a is 11.2 (25 °C). It is soluble in water and organic solvents. It is strongly alkaline and absorbs carbon dioxide from the air. It is flammable. It is toxic if inhaled through the skin or mouth. It is used as a solvent, epoxy resin hardener, organic synthesis, and pharmaceutical raw material.
