Ibogawa River

Japanese: 揖保川 - いぼがわ
Ibogawa River
This is the former town area in the southwest of Tatsuno City, in the southwest of Hyogo Prefecture. It is located on the downstream right bank of the Ibo River. In 1951, the villages of Handa, Kanbe, and Kawachi were merged to form a town. In 2005, it was merged with Tatsuno City, Shingu Town, and Mitsu Town to form Tatsuno City. The area around Yamazuya, where JR Tatsuno Station on the Sanyo Main Line is located, was the junction of the Saigoku Kaido and Murozu Kaido roads during the Edo period, and flourished as a post town. In addition to being known for soy sauce brewing, it is also a suburban agricultural area centered on fruit growing. It is also a residential area on the outskirts of Himeji City. The Nagatomi Family Residence, the mansion of a wealthy farmer from the Edo period, is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property. The southern part belongs to the Nishihari District of Setonaikai National Park.

Ibo River

A river that flows through the southwestern part of Hyogo Prefecture. The Mikata River, which originates near Mt. Fujinashi (1,139m) in the eastern part of the Chugoku Mountains, and the Hikihara River, which originates near Tokura Pass (891m), join in Shisō City to become the Ibo River, which flows into the Harima Nada Sea. The total length is 71km. The Hikihara Dam upstream of the Hikihara River is a multipurpose dam built in 1958. The midstream area is the prefecture's most beautiful forest area, and the downstream area is Harima's grain-producing region and coastal industrial area. The water quality is good, and it is also important as a source of drinking water.
