…The lyre is a stringed instrument whose strings are made by the wind. Its name comes from Aiolos, the Greek god of the wind. There is a legend about its origin, which says that Hermes created the instrument after seeing the tendons remaining in a dried turtle's shell ringing in the wind. There is also a theory that it deals with the mystical nature of the instrument producing sound spontaneously.

...The sound of pine winds (shourai) and the hum of electric wires also belong to this category. The name Aeolus comes from Aiolos, the wind god in Greek mythology. In Japan, there has long been the word mogaribue, a winter seasonal word, which refers to the Aeolus sound made by the winter seasonal winds blowing through narrow gaps in fences or bamboo fences.
