Piperazine

Hexahydropyrazine. C 4 H 10 N 2 (86.14). Obtained by reducing pyrazine with sodium and alcohol. Plate crystals. Melting point 104 °C, boiling point 145 °C. K b1 9 × 10 -15 , K b2 4 × 10 -9 . Easily soluble in water and ethanol. A strong base, it absorbs carbon dioxide from the air. Its salts with phosphoric acid, tartaric acid, and adipic acid are used as anthelmintics for animals, and as detection reagents for antimony, bismuth, and gold. Store in a tightly sealed container, protected from light. [CAS 110-85-0]
