A city on the left bank of the Chenab River in northeastern Pakistan. A key railway station and commercial center. Industries include textiles, bicycles, medical equipment, and sports equipment. In the 12th century, it was the base of Muhammad of the Ghorid dynasty. It is the tomb of Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. Population: 421,502 (1998).
