Among the committee members, Bertrand Barère was in charge of liaison with the National Convention and the various authorities, Jean-Baptiste-Robert Lindet was in charge of food supplies, Carnot was in charge of military matters, Claude-Antoine Prieur de la Côte-Or was in charge of the procurement of arms and ammunition, and Jacques-Nicolas Billaud-Varenne and Jean-Marie Collot d'Herbois were primarily responsible for local administration, but it was Robespierre and his deputies, Saint-Just and Georges-Auguste Couthon, who determined the overall direction of the committee's policies. However, towards the end of the Jacobin dictatorship, conflicts with the Committee for Security and between Robespierre's supporters and other committee members who feared Robespierre's personal dictatorship came to the surface, leading to the Thermidorean Reaction.
