ppm - P.P.M.

A term expressing a ratio or proportion. Parts per million. Abbreviation for parts per million. Used to express how many parts of a whole a quantity is. 1 ppm equals 0.0001%. It is mainly used to express concentration or volume, such as the ratio of toxic gases to the amount of fresh air. It is used to express air pollutants, food additives, the composition of trace elements, the amount of impurities in semiconductors, etc. Parts per billion are also called ppb (abbreviation for parts per billion).

割合、比率を表す用語。100万分率。parts per millionの略。ある量が全体の100万分のいくつを占めるかを表すときに用いる。1ppm=0.0001%に相当する。新鮮な空気の量に対する有毒ガスの割合のように、おもに濃度や体積について使用される。大気汚染物質、食品添加物、微量元素の組成、半導体中の不純物質の量などの表示に使われる。なお、10億分率をppb(parts per billionの略)という。
