Japanese: 亀田[町] - かめだ

An old town on the Echigo Plain in Nakakanbara District, Niigata Prefecture, bordering Niigata City. National Route 49 and the Shinetsu Main Line pass through the main settlement, which developed as Rokusai Ichiba Town. It was known for its "Kameda Stripes," but now the chemical fiber industry is thriving. It produces rice, pears, plums, and more. It is a satellite town of Niigata City. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Niigata City along with Niitsu City, Shirane City, Toyosaka City, Kosudo Town and Yokogoshi Town in Nakakanbara District, and Iwamuro Village, Nishikawa Town, Aikata Village, Katahigashi Village, Tsukigata Village, and Nakanokuchi Village in Nishikanbara District. 16.82 ^km2 . Population 32,882 (2003).

新潟県中蒲原(なかかんばら)郡，新潟市に接する越後平野上の旧町。国道49号線と信越本線が通じる主集落は六斎市場町として発達。〈亀田縞(じま)〉で知られたが，今は化繊工業が盛ん。米，ナシ，ウメなどを産す。新潟市の衛星都市。2005年３月新津市，白根市，豊栄市，中蒲原郡小須戸町，横越町，西蒲原郡岩室村，西川町，味方村，潟東村，月潟村，中之口村と新潟市へ編入。16.82km²。３万2882人（2003）。
