Rutile

Also called rutile. Naturally occurring _TiO2 , found in small amounts in metamorphic and igneous rocks. Tetragonal crystals in space group P4 / mnm . Contains two basic compositions in the unit cell. Polymorphs include brookite (orthorhombic) and anatase (tetragonal). Clear {110} cleavage. Hardness 6-6.5. Density 4.23 g cm ^-3 . 金紅石ともいう．天然産のTiO₂で，変成岩，火成岩中に少量産出する．空間群 P 4/mnmに属する正方晶系の結晶．単位格子中に二つの基本組成を含む．多形として，板チタン石(brookite)(斜方)，鋭すい石(anatase)(正方)がある．へき開{110}明瞭．硬度6～6.5．密度4.23 g cm^－3．[別用語参照]二酸化チタン
