Firebird
1. A manga work by Tezuka Osamu. A long series depicting the essence of life from ancient times to the future, from Earth to space, centering on the Phoenix, whose blood is said to grant eternal life to those who drink it. It was serialized in Manga Shonen from July 1954 to May 1955, Shojo Club from May 1956 to December 1957, COM from January 1967 to March 1978, Manga Shonen from April 1978 to April 1981, and Wild Age from January 1986 to February 1988. The latest edition is the complete 11-volume set of the Kodansha Tezuka Osamu Bunko Collection + one-volume Shojo Club edition. It won the first Kodansha Publishing Culture Award (1970) in the Children's Manga category. There is also an animated film.
② A Japanese film released in 1978. Based on ①. Directed by Kon Ichikawa, written by Shuntaro Tanikawa. Starring Tomisaburo Wakayama, Toshinori Omi, Mieko Takamine, Toru Emori, Mitsuko Kusabue, Reiko Ohara, Ryuzo Hayashi and others.
③ A Japanese TV anime based on ①. Broadcast on NHK (April to June 2004). Produced by Tezuka Productions. Voice cast: Keiko Takeshita and others.

Firebird

1. Ballet music by Russian-born composer Igor Stravinsky (1910). Original title: L'Oiseau de feu. Composed at the request of Sergei Diaghilev. It is known as one of Stravinsky's three great ballet scores, along with Petrushka and The Rite of Spring.
② A ballet (1910) by Russian dancer and choreographer Mikhail Fokine. Original title: L'oiseau de feu. Music is based on ①. It premiered at Ballets Russes. Currently, versions choreographed by George Balanchine and Maurice Béjart are also known.

①手塚治虫による漫画作品。その血を飲めば永遠の命を得られるという火の鳥を中心に、古代から未来まで、地球から宇宙を舞台に、生命の本質を描いたシリーズ長編。『漫画少年』1954年7月号~1955年5月号、『少女クラブ』1956年5月号~1957年12月号、『COM』1967年1月号~1978年3月号、『マンガ少年』1978年4月号~1981年4月号、『野性時代』1986年1月号~1988年2月号に連載。最新版は講談社手塚治虫文庫全集全11巻+少女クラブ版全1巻。第1回(1970年)講談社出版文化賞児童まんが部門受賞。劇場用アニメもある。

火の鳥

①ロシア生まれの作曲家イーゴリ・ストラヴィンスキーのバレエ音楽(1910)。原題《L'Oiseau de feu》。セルゲイ・ディアギレフの依頼により作曲された。『ペトルーシュカ』、『春の祭典』とともにストラヴィンスキーの三大バレエ音楽の一つとして知られる。
②ロシア出身の舞踊家・振付家ミハイル・フォーキンによるバレエ(1910)。原題《L'oiseau de feu》。音楽は①を使用。初演はバレエ・リュス。現在はジョージ・バランシン、モーリス・ベジャールの振付による版も知られる。
