mudrā (English spelling) mudra

…It is also called a mudra, a secret seal, or simply a seal. It is a translation of the Sanskrit word mudra. Mudra originally meant a seal or stamp, but in esoteric Buddhism in particular, the word was given a deeper meaning as a banner that attests to the truth and absence of falsehood of the inner knowledge and true vows of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.
