1730‐1807 A scholar from the Greek Enlightenment. Commonly known as Katartzís or Demetrákis. Well versed in French, Turkish, Arabic and Romanian, he served for many years as president of the High Court of Bucharest. His many enlightening works have had a major impact on the world of modern Greek education, language and culture. He excelled in Greek grammar research, and advocated a simple modern Greek language, publishing research books on classical languages in modern Greek, such as Grammar (written 1787-88).
