A scholar from the Greek Enlightenment. Commonly known as Katartzís or Demetrákis. Well versed in French, Turkish, Arabic and Romanian, he served for many years as president of the High Court of Bucharest. His many enlightening works have had a major impact on the world of modern Greek education, language and culture. He excelled in Greek grammar research, and advocated a simple modern Greek language, publishing research books on classical languages in modern Greek, such as Grammar (written 1787-88). ギリシア啓蒙主義時代の学者。俗称カタルジスKatartzís，ディミトラキスDemetrákis。フランス語，トルコ語，アラビア語，ルーマニア語に精通し，ブカレストの高等裁判所所長を長く務めた。多くの啓蒙的著作により近代ギリシア教育界，言語･文化界に残した影響は大きい。ギリシア語文法研究に優れ，簡明な近代ギリシア語を提唱して《文法》(1787‐88執筆)など古典語研究書を近代ギリシア語で発表した。【真下とも子】
