Hua-xiang-jing (English: Hua-xiang-jing)

Japanese: 画像鏡 - がぞうきょう(英語表記)Hua-xiang-jing
Hua-xiang-jing (English: Hua-xiang-jing)
A type of Han-style mirror. This refers to mirrors made in the period from the Later Han to the Six Dynasties period in China, with designs on the backs of mirror stones similar to those of the Later Han. They include images of gods and human figures such as the King Father of the East and the Queen Mother of the West, depictions of scenes from hunting, warfare, horse-drawn carriages, music, singing, and dancing, famous historical tales, and even flying celestial figures influenced by Buddhism. The inner area is divided into four equal parts by milk, and the images are arranged around the outer area, with designs of flowing clouds, birds and animals, images, and sawtooth patterns. Hundreds of mirror images have been excavated from the Shaoxing tombs in Zhejiang Province along with calendar mirrors from the Later Han and Three Kingdoms periods. They have also been excavated from the Lelang tombs in the Jiangnan region and Korea. In Japan, Chinese-made mirror images have often been excavated from tombs, and imitation mirrors have also been made, such as the mirror inscribed with the year of the Guiwei era at Sumida Hachimangu Shrine in Wakayama.
