The river runs through central Poland from north to south, curving widely. It originates on the northern slope of the Carpathian Mountains, passes through Krakow, Warsaw, and other cities, and empties into the Gdansk Bay of the Baltic Sea east of Gdansk. It is connected by canals to the Odra River and the Dnieper River.
