Forgery - Gisaku
〘noun〙① To make a fake. Especially when someone else makes a painting or calligraphy that resembles or imitates the work of the original artist. Also, the work itself. A counterfeit. A forgery. *Jitsura Koki - December 16, 1492, Meiō 1: "It is said that the Myogisho (written by Tameie-kyo ) is a forgery." *Kyōshuhen (1783), vol. 1: "It is said that this is a book presented to the father of Confucian sage Kong. There is no question of it being a later forgery ." [Late Han Shu - Weixiao Zhuan] 2. When someone other than the author reproduces, translates, performs, makes into a film, broadcasts, etc. a work without the copyright owner's consent, infringing on the copyright. A term used in the old Copyright Act. ※Copyright Law (1899) Article 30: "The reproduction of a work already published by the following means shall not be considered a forgery."

〘名〙① にせものをつくること。特に、絵画や書などを、別の人がその作者の作に似せて、あるいはまねて作ること。また、その作品。まがいもの。偽造。贋作(がんさく)。※実隆公記‐明応元年(1492)一二月一六日「明疑抄〈為家卿作〉、是偽作之物也之由存之」※授業編(1783)一「孔聖人の御父へ上られし書なりと云ひ伝ふ。後人の偽作(ギサク)は論なし」 〔後漢書‐隗囂伝〕② 著作者以外の者が、著作権者の承諾なしに、著作物の複製・翻訳・興行・映画化・放送などをして、著作権を侵害すること。旧著作権法での用語。※著作権法(明治三二年)(1899)三〇条「既に発行したる著作物を左の方法に依り複製するは偽作と看做さず」
