The change in shape or volume that occurs when an external force is applied to an object. In other words, it refers to the change in the relative positions of each point within an object, and does not include the movement or rotation of the entire object. It can be divided into longitudinal or normal strain (the amount of expansion or contraction caused by the deformation of a line segment of unit length considered within an object), shear or tangential strain (the angle at which two mutually perpendicular planes considered within an object are tilted from their original right angle after deformation), and volumetric strain (the amount of increase or decrease caused by the deformation of a unit volume considered within an object). →Poisson's ratio/strain meter→Related topics: Modulus of rigidity | Elasticity | Torsion test Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
