1886‐1951 French thinker and researcher of esotericism. Through his study of the scriptures of India, China, Islam, etc., he became convinced of the existence of a single original tradition common to both East and West, the existence of a central point of the world, and the cyclical development of history. While criticizing the spiritualism of Papus and others as erroneous, he elucidated the universal structure of existence and awareness. He lived in Cairo from 1930 onwards, and died there. His books include "King of the World" (1927), "The Symbolism of the Cross" (1931), "Metaphysics of the East" (1939), and many others.
