Platylambrus validus (Hishigani)

Japanese: ヒシガニ(菱蟹) - ヒシガニ（英語表記）Platylambrus validus

A decapod crustacean of the family Palaeidae (illustration). Both males and females have long claws, with a carapace width of about 5 cm. As the name suggests, the outline of the carapace is close to a diamond, and the surface is covered with numerous bumps and small and large granules. The stomach, cardiac, and gill areas are raised, with deep grooves between them, and the front edge of the carapace is lined with eight protrusions. The forehead is triangular. The cross section of the long segments of the claws is square, and the cross section of the palm is a triangular column, and unlike other crabs, the palm is remarkably long. Each segment is covered with numerous large and small protrusions.

十脚目ヒシガニ科の甲殻類（イラスト）。雌雄とも長大なはさみ脚をもつカニで，甲幅5cmほど。甲の輪郭は名のようにひし形に近く，表面は多数の凹凸や大小の顆粒（かりゆう）で覆われている。胃域，心域，鰓域（さいいき）が隆起し，その間は深い溝になり，甲の前側縁には8本の突起が並んでいる。額は三角形。はさみ脚は長節の断面が四角形，掌部の断面が三角形の柱状で，他のカニ類と違って掌部が著しく長い。各節とも多数の大小の突起で覆われている。
