Hishikari [town] - Hishikari
A former town in Isa County in northern Kagoshima Prefecture. It occupies the former lake basin in the upper reaches of the Sendai River and the surrounding plateaus and mountains. The fertile basin is a producer of high-quality Isa rice, white leeks and melons, and livestock is raised there. It is home to the Hishikari mine and Yunoo hot springs. Kawakita is the habitat of Azotobacter nigricans (a natural monument). In November 2008, it merged with Oguchi City to form Isa City. 100.47 km2 . 9,380 people (2005).
