Kikkou Huguma - Kikkou Huguma

A perennial plant of the Asteraceae family (APG classification: Asteraceae). The leaves are heart-shaped, kidney-shaped, or ovate, and sometimes pentagonal, and occasionally 5-lobed. They have long stalks and gather at the bottom of the stem in a slightly ring-like shape. In September and October, flower stalks reach a height of 10-30 cm and produce a dozen or so flower heads in a raceme or compound raceme. The involucre is tubular, 10-15 mm long, and contains three florets. It grows under mountain forests, and is distributed from Hokkaido to Kyushu and even in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. On Yakushima Island, there is a variety with deeply lobed palmate leaves, called Ryukyu Haguma. The name comes from the fact that the leaves resemble a turtle's shell.

キク科（APG分類：キク科）の多年草。葉は心臓形、腎臓(じんぞう)形、卵形で、五角形のものもあり、まれに5浅裂するものもある。長柄があり、茎の下部に集まり、やや輪状につく。9、10月、高さ10～30センチメートルの花茎が伸び、十数個の頭花を総状または複総状につける。総包葉は筒状で長さ10～15ミリメートル、中に3個の小花がある。山地の林下に生え、北海道から九州、さらに朝鮮半島南部にも分布する。屋久(やく)島には葉が掌(しょう)状に深裂する変種があり、リュウキュウハグマとよばれる。名は、葉がカメの甲らに似ることによる。
