A state ruled by Germanic peoples that was established on the Mediterranean coast of North Africa at the end of the Western Roman Empire. It is called Reich der Wandalen in German. It posed a great threat to the Roman Empire, which was in its final stages, and contributed to its collapse. It was later criticized as a model of Germanic barbarism and sometimes as a prototype of Prussian militarism. However, in reality, the unity of the tribes was weak and it did not have the power to change society in Roman Africa. Rather, this kingdom was nothing more than a state of autocratic rulers that quickly rose to power by taking advantage of the existing system, that is, an alter-ego of the Roman Empire itself.

西ローマ帝国末期に北アフリカの地中海沿岸に建設されたゲルマン人を支配者とする国家。ドイツ語でReich der Wandalenと称する。末期的状態にあったローマ帝国に大きな脅威を与え，その崩壊を促す結果となったところから，後に野蛮なゲルマン人の見本として，ときにはプロイセン的軍国主義の原型として槍玉にあげられることにもなった。しかし実際には部族としてのまとまりは弱く，ローマ領アフリカの社会を変革する力をもつものでもなく，むしろこの王国は既存の体制を利用して急速に浮上した専制的支配者の国家，つまりローマ帝国そのものの分身にほかならなかった。
