Ishido-shi

Japanese: 石塔氏 - いしどううじ

Seiwa Genji. A branch of the Ashikaga clan, they called themselves Ishito clan in the mid-Kamakura period under Yasuuji's son Yorishige. The powerful Shiba clan, Shibukawa clan, and Isshiki clan also originated from Yorishige's brothers. They are known for their exploits during the Nanboku-cho period, and Yorishige (grandson of Yorishige and son of Yoshifusa) in particular gained the trust of Ashikaga Tadayoshi, was appointed as the head of the Inketsu clan, and temporarily became the governor of Ise.

清和源氏。足利氏の一族で，鎌倉時代中期，泰氏の子頼茂のとき石塔氏を称した。足利の有力一族である斯波氏，渋川氏，一色氏も頼茂の兄弟から始る。おもに南北朝期にその活躍が知られ，特に頼房 (頼茂の孫，義房の子) は，足利直義の信頼を得，引付頭人に任じ，一時伊勢守護となった。
