A Flemish composer. Along with Dufay, he is one of the leading composers of the Burgundian school. Born in Mons in the County of Hainaut (now Belgium), he was active in the court chapel of Philippe le Bon, Duke of Burgundy, from the late 1420s to 1452. The majority of his works are French secular songs in three parts, with elegant melodies depicting courtly love affairs. He also composed over 50 religious pieces such as masses and motets, but unlike Dufay, who mainly worked in Cambrai Cathedral, he did not leave behind a single "circular mass." →Dunstable/Mass→Related topic: Chansons Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
