Tinggian people - Tinggian people (English spelling)

Japanese: ティンギアン族 - ティンギアンぞく(英語表記)Tinggian
Tinggian people - Tinggian people (English spelling)
A tribe that lives in the northwestern mountainous region of Luzon in the Philippines, and whose native language is Tinguian. They have a population of about 30,000. They are known as a tribe that once practiced headhunting. The name Tinguian comes from the Malay word tinggi (meaning "mountain"), and was first used by the Spaniards as the official name of the tribe. The Tinguian themselves call themselves Itneg (meaning "from the interior"). They are generally divided into two groups: Highland Tinguian and Valley Tinguian. The former are scattered from the eastern and northern parts of Abra Province to the highlands of the southern part of Ilocos Norte Province.

フィリピンのルソン島北西部山岳地帯に分布し,ティンギアン語を母語とする種族。人口約3万。かつて首狩りの習俗を有した種族として知られる。ティンギアンという呼称はマレー語のティンギtinggi(〈山〉の意)に由来し,スペイン人がこの種族の公式名として初めて用いた。ティンギアン自身は自分たちをイトネッグItneg(〈奥地の出身者〉の意)と呼ぶ。一般に高地ティンギアンと渓谷ティンギアンに二分される。前者はアブラ州の東部と北部からイロコス・ノルテ州南部の高地にかけて散在する。
