1226‐86 A Jacobite theologian, historian, and physician. His Latin name was Barhebraeus, and his Arabic name was Ibn al-'Ibrī. He was from Malatya in Anatolia. He was a Jew who converted to Christianity, hence the name Hebraeus. He studied medicine and theology in Antioch and Tripoli, and became a priest (Maphrian from 1264) after being a physician. He was the most famous Jacobite writer, and wrote works in Syriac and Arabic on theology, philosophy, canon law, mathematics, and astronomy.
