Koyo Kawamura

Koyo Kawamura
1897-1946 A composer from the Showa period.
Born August 23, 1897. Studied under Shimizu Fujii and Akira Nakata. While working as an elementary school music teacher, he also devoted himself to teaching children music, such as hosting choral societies. He composed children's songs such as "Happy Hinamatsuri" and "Kamome no Sailor" that made use of elements of traditional Japanese music. Died December 24, 1946. Age 50. Born in Fukuoka Prefecture. Graduated from Kokura Normal School. Real name was Naonori. Other works include "Red Hat, White Hat."

明治30年8月23日生まれ。藤井清水,中田章らに師事。小学校音楽教師をつとめながら,合唱会を主宰するなど児童の音楽指導に力をそそぐ。日本の伝統的音楽の要素をいかした「嬉しい雛(ひな)まつり」「かもめの水兵さん」などの童謡を作曲した。昭和21年12月24日死去。50歳。福岡県出身。小倉師範卒。本名は直則。作品はほかに「赤い帽子白い帽子」など。
