A Tibetan esoteric Buddhist text. It is commonly called the Tibetan Book of the Dead, in contrast to the Egyptian Book of the Dead. Its official title is "Great Liberation (Dol) by Hearing (Toe) in the State of the Intermediate State (Bardo), from the 'Profound Religious Text that Liberates Oneself by Contemplating Peaceful and Wrathful Gods.'" It was written by the sage Padmasambhava (Lotus Buddhism), the founder of Tibetan Buddhism, and is one of the hidden sutras (termas) hidden in Mount Gampodar on the banks of the Selden River. It is said to have been perceived and excavated by Rigzin Karlimpa (14th century?), the fifth reincarnation of Padmasambhava, who possessed supernatural powers.
