Founder of the Melaka Sultanate. Born in the late 14th century, he was probably the son of royalty or nobility in Palembang, Sumatra. He fled Palembang when the Majapahit Sultanate attacked the city around 1380, and is thought to have moved to Malacca, near the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, around 1390, where he founded the Melaka Sultanate. His existence is first known for certain in 1405, when he became a tributary state of China through contact with the fleet of Zheng He of the Ming Dynasty, which visited the area at that time, and visited China himself in 1411.

ムルカ王国の建設者。14世紀後半におそらくスマトラ島のパレンバンの王族，もしくは貴族の子として生まれたらしい。1380年ころジャワ島のマジャパイト王国がパレンバンを攻撃した際に同地を逃れ，90年ころマレー半島南端近くのマラッカに移り，ここでマラッカ王国を建てたものと考えられる。彼の存在が確実に知られるのは1405年が最初で，当時この地域を訪れた明の鄭和（ていわ）の艦隊との接触を通じて中国の朝貢国となり，11年にはみずから中国を訪れている。
