?-1413? Founder of the Melaka Sultanate. Born in the late 14th century, he was probably the son of royalty or nobility in Palembang, Sumatra. He fled Palembang when the Majapahit Sultanate attacked the city around 1380, and is thought to have moved to Malacca, near the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, around 1390, where he founded the Melaka Sultanate. His existence is first known for certain in 1405, when he became a tributary state of China through contact with the fleet of Zheng He of the Ming Dynasty, which visited the area at that time, and visited China himself in 1411. ?‐1413?
