Tanezane Akizuki

Japanese: 秋月種実 - あきづきたねざね

1545-1596 A military commander from the Sengoku to Oda-Toyotomi period.
Born in Tenbun 14. Second son of Akizuki Tanekata. Lord of Koshozan Castle in Chikuzen (Fukuoka Prefecture). Allied with the Mori clan, later the Shimazu clan, and repeatedly fought against the Otomo clan. In Tensho 15, resisted Toyotomi Hideyoshi's invasion of Kyushu. Later, he surrendered the castle and presented his famous shoulder-style tea caddy "Nara Shiba" in exchange for forgiveness. Died on September 26, Bunroku 5. Age 52. His pen names were Sogin and Shoo.

天文(てんぶん)14年生まれ。秋月種方の次男。筑前(ちくぜん)(福岡県)古処山(こしょざん)城主。毛利氏,のち島津氏とむすんで大友氏と戦いをくりかえす。天正(てんしょう)15年豊臣秀吉の九州攻めに抵抗。のち開城し,名物の肩衝(かたつき)茶入れ「楢柴(ならしば)」を献上し,ゆるされた。文禄(ぶんろく)5年9月26日死去。52歳。号は宗誾(そうぎん),笑翁。
