A town in the southern part of La Paz Department in western Bolivia. It is located about 80 km south-southwest of La Paz, on the Altiplano plateau in the Andes Mountains, at an altitude of about 4,000 m. It is a mining town with a population of about 4,500, where most of the country's copper is mined. It is connected to La Paz by road, and there is a railway line connecting La Paz to the Pacific coast port of Arica (Chile) nearby.
