Baramutsu - oil fish

Japanese: バラムツ - ばらむつ（英語表記）oil fish

A marine fish of the family Acanthidae in the order Perciformes. In Kochi and other areas, it is called Abrauo because its meat is oily. Its English name is the same. In Okinawa, it is called Ingadarumi (meaning that it is oily and causes the stomach to become loose). It is distributed in warm regions, mainly in the tropics of the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic Oceans. In the waters near Japan, it lives off the Pacific coast from central to southern Japan. It can grow to a maximum length of nearly 3m, but most are around 1.5-2m and weigh 30-50kg. It has a spindle-shaped body, a large head, as well as large eyes and mouth. It has powerful canines in its upper jaw.

スズキ目クロタチカマス科の海産魚。肉が油っぽいので高知などではアブラウオという。英名も同様。沖縄ではインガダルミ(油が多いので胃がたるむの意)と呼ばれる。太平洋，インド洋，大西洋の熱帯を中心とした温暖域に分布する。日本近海では中部以南の太平洋岸の沖合域に生息する。最大全長3m近くなるが，ふつうは1.5～2m，体重30～50kgほどのものが多い。体は紡錘形で，頭が大きく，また眼や口も大きい。上あごに強大な犬歯がある。
