A Danish-Norwegian dynasty that lasted from 1448 to 1863 (until 1814 in Norway). Christian (later known as Christian I), a count of Oldenburg, Germany, was crowned king of Denmark in 1448 and became its founder (reigned 1448-81). His two sons, Hans (reigned 1481-1513) and Frederick I (reigned 1523-33), established two branches of the House of Olenberg. The former branch died out with the death of Christian II (reigned 1513-23), while the latter continued until Frederick VI (reigned 1808-39).
