Anglo‐America

Japanese: アングロ･アメリカ（英語表記）Anglo‐America

The region of the Americas that includes the United States, Canada, and Greenland. It accounts for about one-sixth of the world's total land area. It is a cultural term used to refer to the part of the so-called "New World" south of Mexico that was ruled by Spain and Portugal and still retains strong cultural traditions originating from the Iberian Peninsula. Europeans settled in the lands of the indigenous Indians, but although they were influenced by Spain and France, the Anglo-Saxons and their culture played a dominant role from the beginning of development, and most of it is English-speaking, with the exception of Greenland, which is a Danish territory, and Quebec, Canada, where French is the everyday language.

南･北アメリカ大陸のうち，アメリカ合衆国，カナダ，およびグリーンランドを含む地域。世界の総陸地面積の約6分の1を占める。いわゆる〈新大陸〉のうち，スペインとポルトガルの支配を受け今日もこうしたイベリア半島起源の文化的伝統を強く持つ，メキシコ以南の〈ラテン･アメリカ〉に対して用いられる文化圏的呼称。先住民インディアンの地にヨーロッパ人が入植したが，スペインやフランスの影響を受けながらも，開発の当初からアングロ･サクソン人とその文化が支配的な役割を果たし，デンマーク領であるグリーンランドやフランス語を日常語とするカナダのケベックなどを除いて，その大部分が英語圏に属する。
