A town in Minamikoma County in western Yamanashi Prefecture, bordering Shizuoka Prefecture. The Akaishi Mountains dominate the western part of the town, and the settlement is located in the deep valley of the Hayakawa River. The town produces shiitake mushrooms, chestnuts, and konjac. There are many power plants. The western part belongs to the Southern Alps National Park, and Nishiyama Onsen is home to the town.
