A town in Minamikoma County in western Yamanashi Prefecture, bordering Shizuoka Prefecture. The Akaishi Mountains dominate the western part of the town, and the settlement is located in the deep valley of the Hayakawa River. The town produces shiitake mushrooms, chestnuts, and konjac. There are many power plants. The western part belongs to the Southern Alps National Park, and Nishiyama Onsen is home to the town. 山梨県西部，静岡県と接する南巨摩(みなみこま)郡の町。西部を赤石山脈が占め，早川の深い渓谷に集落が立地する。シイタケ，クリ，コンニャクなどを産する。発電所が多い。西部は南アルプス国立公園に属し，西山温泉がある。南の雨畑は硯(すずり)の特産地。369.96km2。1246人（2010）。
